Julie Clayton BEd ( Hons)
Head Of School

Julie is an experienced teacher, who has taught for over 20 years across the whole primary age range. She has been a leading Year Six and Maths teacher for Cheshire. Before becoming Head of School Julie has been an SENDCO, Assistant and Deputy Head Teacher. Julie currently teaches part-time in Linmere.

Fran Carter
Linmere Class Teacher

Fran is an experienced Primary teacher with over 10 years' teaching experience. She has worked for several years in Year 6 and is experienced in preparing children for KS2 SATs.



Caroline Jones
Teaching Assistant

After a career in Marketing, Caroline successfully completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education becoming a Primary School teacher in 2007. After teaching in a very successful school near Southampton, Caroline relocated back to her home in Cheshire and taught in a number of local schools.

 Ricky Huddart BA (Hons)  

Assistant Headteacher and Key Stage 2 Leader

Pickmere Class Teacher 

Ricky is an experienced class teacher with over 10 years in the profession. He has worked across a range of schools in the Chester area, working mainly in Key Stage 2. He has experience of consulting on a mixed age curriculum in South Africa and has also worked collaboratively with an assessment company to create a tailor made software for schools.   


Lorrae Campbell 
Teaching Assistant

Lorrae is a Teaching Assistant in Year 5. She qualified as a TA  after a successful career as an Army Captain in the Royal Logistic Corps, and Contract Manager in industry. Lorrae's special interests are in the whole school reading programme, and archaeology. She is currently studying for a Masters Degree in the subject, and runs a popular Archaeology Club at the school.

Natalie Inskip BA (Hons)

Nunsmere Class Teacher

Natalie completed a four year BA Hons degree in Primary Education with QTS, undertaking placements across the entire primary range. Natalie previously worked in customer care during her time at university but is now into her fourth year at Delamere after completing her NQT year here. 



Jo Law
Teaching Assistant

Having worked for a number of years as the children's book buyer for WH Smith and then becoming actively involved as a parent at Delamere, Jo started working as a TA in October 2008 with Years 5/6. She subsequently spent time across all year groups gaining experience and 'in-house training' as well as attending some external accredited courses. In particular, the Elklan Speech and Language Programme has been of great interest to Jo. She also has a great passion for swimming so enjoyed gaining the ASA Swimming Teachers Certificate too. 

Laura Evans
Teaching Assistant

Laura has been working as a TA for 8 years, most of that time spent as 1:1. She is currently working towards a degree in child psychology with open university, with her sound knowledge of language and communication development helping her. 





Blakemere Class


Melissa Wood BA (Hons) 

Blakemere Class Teacher

Melissa completed a four year BA Hons degree in Primary Education with Early Years, undertaking placements across the primary age (EYFS-Y6). Melissa has worked in Year 1 for the past three years and has been supporting children in their phonics screening tests. Melissa is currently Key Stage One Leader, and Subject Leader for Science and Environmental Education at Delamere Academy. 


    Siân Birks  BA (Hons), EYPS, QTS

Blakemere Class Teacher and KS1 French 



Siân has been a member of the team since 2013, originally teaching in Early Years before going on maternity leave to have her son.  Since returning, Siân has taught in KS1 and KS2 as well as being the Languages Teacher for Early Years and KS1. Siân has several years of experience in Schools, Nurseries and Children’s Centres, working with children and families.   


Karen Dodd 
Teaching Assistant 

Karen has been working as a TA for 6 years, most of that time has been spent working as a 1:1 with children with additional needs. Karen has a foundation Degree in Teaching Assistance and after taking a year out of study and work due to having her second child, she is currently finishing a BA Hons in Childhood and youth professional studies, at the University of Chester. Karen has a keen interest in Makaton (child sign language) and is aiming to achieve a teaching qualification for Makaton to teach it within school.

Gemma Prince BA (Hons)
Sandymere Class Teacher  

Gemma completed a three year BA Hons degree in Primary and Secondary Education with Design and Technology, undertaking placements across the primary and secondary age range (ks2-a level). Gemma worked as a lead associate in retail whilst completing her degree. After taking her final placement at Delamere she got a job teaching Year 4 but has currently moved into KS1 to teach Year 2. 


Loraine Garner 
Assistant SENCO and Higher Level Teaching Assistant 


A qualified NNEB and experienced Teaching Assistant, with a successful career in Local Government spanning 38 years across Finance and Education. Joining Delamere in 1997, her significant achievements have been gaining her HLTA status in 2008 along with her Advanced Diploma in Special Educational Needs in 2013 with Leeds Metropolitan University. Loraine's strengths lie in Additional Educational Needs and Pastoral Support (medical conditions and procedures).

Amanda Walker BA (Hons)

Key Stage 1 Leader
Nunsmere Class Teacher 

Amanda is in her thirteenth year of teaching, nine of these at Delamere Academy. She has taught across the age groups Reception to Year 4. Four years ago Amanda returned from a sabbatical year travelling the world and teaching in Thailand and Australia. Seven months were spent in Queensland and she taught Year 2/3 and Year 4 at Mater Dei Catholic Primary, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Australia. Amanda currently teaches Year 4 at Delamere Academy and is lead of KS2 and The Art’s. 




Martin Ashworth
Teaching Assistant

Martin was a motorcycle rider training instructor for 10 years, then worked for 6 years in children's homes looking after children between the ages of 12 and 18. After realising the 24-hour shifts were incompatible with a young family and volunteering as a parent helper on days off, Martin decided to pursue a career as a Teaching Assistant. He worked in two other schools before joining Delamere in September 2011.

Bethany Hume
Hatchmere Class Teacher

Bethany completed a three year BA Hons degree in Early Childhood education in Leeds, where she gained experience working in a range of placements from nursery to year three. Bethany completed her NQT year last year at Delamere and is looking forward to spending another year in Hatchmere. 



Jayne Lloyd
Teaching Assistant

Jayne has previously had a successful career in the corporate industry before moving into Health and Fitness, where she managed two specialised fitness clubs. After taking a career break raising her family, Jayne achieved her aspiration of becoming a Teaching Assistant in 2012. Jayne joined Delamere Academy in 2013 where she has had experience working within key stage 2 and is currently working as a Teaching Assistant in Hatchmere class.



Judith Lathaen
Teaching Assistant

Judith previously trained and worked as a nurse before taking a career break to bring up her three children. Judith then joined Delamere Academy in 2013 and completed her TA training. Since working at Delamere Academy Judith has worked as a 1:1 support and as the part-time Teaching Assistant in Hatchmere.  In her spare time Judith is the Cub Leader for her local Scout group. 


 Inclusion Manager



Jo Price B.Ed (Hons) NPQH PG Cert ALN

Jo is an experienced teacher, having taught in both mainstream and special needs settings, covering KS1-KS3 (5-14 years) and in senior management positions. Jo is currently the schools Inclusion Manager with responsibility for all children and families who need extra support. She is a qualified dyslexia teacher and has recently completed a post graduate certificate in additional learning needs. Jo works across all of the schools in the trust.

School Counsellor 


Lia Roberts

Lia is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and holds and Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling. She has been running counselling services in primary and secondary school settings since 2003 working in settings such as the NSPCC; the YMCA; University of Leeds and Barnsley Academy.

Lia works on a Tuesday morning each week and is available at break times for the children to have drop-in sessions.



PE Teacher


Tom Freeman (BA Hons)
PE Teacher

Tom completed a BA (Hons) degree in Sports Development and PE at Liverpool John Moores University, and then went on to successfully gain Qualified Teacher Status on a Physical Education PGCE at Edge Hill University. Before starting at Delamere Academy Tom taught PE in secondary schools in Chester and the Wirral. Tom has gained a number of sports coaching qualifications including ones in football, trampolining, handball, cricket and boxing.

Tom is also the Chester Schools FA Primary Representative and is charge of organising and coordinating all Primary School football leagues/ cups/ regional tournaments for Chester schools.

Outside of teaching, Tom works as an Area Scouting Coordinator for Everton Football Club and coaches the Chester Allstars Football team.


Music Teachers


Edward Jones
Singing teacher 

Edward is a singing teacher and performer and a recent graduate from the Royal College of Music, London. Edward has performed all around the world including America, Germany, France and Sweden to name a few. In the UK Edward has sung solo at the MEN Arena in Manchester, the Manchester apollo theatre and had his debut performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2007

Edward started his musical career as a chorister at Chester Cathedral Choir under the supervision of Roger Fisher and then David Poulter. As a chorister Edward performed in many venues around the UK and abroad, including a solo performance at the MEN Arena in Manchester in front of 10,000 people and a duet at the Manchester Apollo Theatre with Sarah Brightman. He played the lead role of Amahl in 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' and reached the final of the BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year. He has sung solos in St Patrick's Cathedral New York and St Paul's Cathedral London.



Jo Mulligan
Music Teacher

Jo previously held a number of roles at national government level in Rural Affairs negotiating agri-environmental plans for farmers and landowners throughout the Northwest and North Wales. Having trained and gained experience more recently as a TA, this seemed an ideal platform from which to enter into peripatetic teaching of the flute and piano. She has gained Grade VIII at both practical and theoretical levels and has performed both nationally and internationally within orchestras, bands and quintets, most recently the Cambrian Philharmonic.


Alex Khavastiouk
Music Teacher

Alex has two diplomas in music awarded by Tchaikovsky College of Music (Moscow 1975)The first is a qualification as an Artist in Orchestra and the second  qualifies him as a Teacher of Music at College Level. He has a further degree in Classical Music from Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music (1981). Alex is also a trained and accredited Yamaha Teacher of Keyboard and has been teaching keyboard, recorder and flute in Cheshire schools since 1994


Nicola Smalley
Music Teacher

Nicola started learning the violin at the age of 7 and went on to study music at university with Malcolm Layfield and graduated with a Masters Degree in performance. Alongside her playing career she has taught for over 15 years in many primary and high schools around Cheshire ranging from the ages of 4 - 18. She is one of the founder members of the Caldara String Quartet who she performs with at many functions on a regular basis and also plays with a variety of Ceilidh bands whilst also being a mum of two children. 





Carolyn Oliver BSC (Hons) CSBM

Carolyn is a qualified experienced Bursar with a Certificate in School Business Management gained in 2008 from the National College of School Leadership. Carolyn has worked at Delamere for 10 years, and is responsible for all aspects of school administration including budget management and health and safety. She previously worked in industry for several years, having gained a BSC (Hons) in Animal Nutrition from Newcastle University.

Tara Venables
Administration Assistant

Following 13 years based in central London pursuing a career in Business Travel, Tara moved north to Delamere to start a family with her husband. With both her children now in full-time education, she took the opportunity to join the team in September 2012 on a part-time basis, assisting the Bursar and formerly acting as Clerk to the Trustees and Governing Body.



Site Manager

Gordon Burdell
Site Manager

Gordon has had an extensive career at ICI working as a Health and Safety Manager up until early retirement in 2011. Gordon works five hours each day and makes sure our site is safe and secure for your children.


Mike Huntbatch


Mike worked as a self employed builder for 46 years. He then worked for Henkle in technical services up to retiring in 2016.
