Blakemere have been working hard on their topic book covers this week, working with water colours to create a rainforest inspired piece of art.

This week the children have started their new topic 'How can we make the World a better place?'. This topic all focuses around caring for our world, looking at the effects of climate change. We are going to be looking into how all this impacts on the rainforests and the animals that live in them. Here the children are creating a gorilla inspired piece of art. This work links in with our Anthony Browne 'Gorilla' work in Literacy.

Through the literacy work on 'Gorilla' the children have explored the illustrations in greater detail, looking for evidence of emotions in the characters. They have also looked for patterns and puzzles that appear in the text. In grammar we have been learning to use expanded nouns in our writing.

In PE this week Blakemere have started taking part in gymnastics. Mr Freeman was so pleased with the shapes they were able to create and the effort they put in throughout the session. Well done Blakemere!

In Maths, the children have completed their work on multiplication. They have been learning to use the short multiplication method and have tried really hard to understand how it works. Here the children are playing 'stairway to success!'. A game where the children can step closer to winning with every correct answer.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
