This week the children have been learning all about Remembrance Sunday.

On Thursday, Mrs Campbell delivered a lesson on Remembrance Sunday. It was wonderful to hear about her own stories and experiences from her time in the army – the children were completely fascinated! Afterwards, to help them remember all of the brave soldiers, the children had the opportunity to make their own poppy. These have all been displayed in the school entrance.

On Monday, the children watched a ‘touring opera’ performance that told the story of the first animal in space. It was a wonderful performance and linked well with our topic that explores inspiring people.

In maths, we have been focusing on subtraction. The children have explored how to subtract numbers mentally and by using the column method. Next week, we will be exploring how to exchange.

We have started our new book in Literacy, ‘The Great Kapok tree’. The children are really engaged in the story and have been exploring the different language features that Lynne cherry used and learning how to use a dictionary to check the meaning of words.

In science, we have started our new topic – plants. I was so impressed with the children’s prior knowledge on the topic! We made a leaflet which described the functions of each part in a plant.

Thank you to everyone who came to the parents evening on Wednesday. It was fantastic to meet you all properly and to be able to share your child’s achievements with you. I look forward to next week's parents evening.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lewis and Mrs Campbell.
