Blakemere had the most fantastic day celebrating World Book Day on Friday!

It was absolutely lovely to see the children dressed up as a character from their favourite books and to hear why they enjoyed the story so much. Thank you for your support with this. The children also had the opportunity to share their books with Pickmere during a shared reading session.

We based our day on 'Sherlock Holmes: a study in scarlet'. After reading a few chapters, the children had to use their new detective skills to solve their own investigation! A video of a police officer informed Blakemere that a chicken had gone missing: had it escaped? been accidentally let out? or stolen? The children thoroughly enjoyed putting their skills to the test. First, the children interviewed members of staff to gain their alibi. Next, the children scoured the garden area and found pieces of different notes which they pieced together so that they could use their UV light to read the hidden message. After discovering the suspect's plan, the children raced over to the field where they inspected the chicken coop and the surrounding areas for clues. The children then split up into pairs to take the fingerprints of the main suspects, before comparing all their evidence and coming to their conclusions! Check out our twitter page where we revealed who the culprit was!

In maths, we have been looking at equivalent fractions and exploring the patterns that we see. We used this to help us solve some missing number questions.

In Literacy, the children have been creating a character for their adventure story that they are working towards writing and have written some fantastic character descriptions.

During R.E., we discussed the Qur'an and why it is so special to Muslims and their beliefs surrounding it. We then had the opportunity to look at a copy of the Qur'an - the children found it fascinating to see that they read from right to left!

We hope you have a fantastic week,

Miss Lewis and mrs Campbell
