We’ve had a fantastic first week in school and the new Hatchmere class have settled in so well into life at Delamere.

The Hatchmere members of staff have been so impressed and proud of each child in Hatchmere, they’ve really settled into school life and are learning the new classroom routines. The year 6 buddies have been invaluable in helping the children to become familiar with the break time and lunchtime routines.

Whilst in the classroom we’ve spent lots of time playing with our new toys and making new friends. We’ve concentrated on ensuring the children are communicating with each other and being kind.

We provided each child with a reading journal and their first reading book, please take sometime to read the information in the front of the journal and record when you have read with your child. We recommend you read with your child at least 4 times a week but understand that children can become very tired in the first few weeks of school. We have also provided a lunch feedback form in the back of the reading journals so you can find out your child’s lunch choice and how much they have eaten.

As of next week we will be beginning more phonics sessions with the children and taking part in extra curricular activities such as singing with Mr Jones. The children will go swimming on Thursday 20th September for the first time, please look out for a letter confirming the arrangements at the end of next week. As the children will be taking part in 2 PE sessions next week and a swimming session please try to ensure that all pieces of clothing are labelled and that girls hair is tied back on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

On Friday’s we have a special show and tell session in the afternoon where children are invited to bring one toy from home that fits inside their locker. Taking part in show and tell helps with children’s confidence and their speaking skills.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Lathaen
