Hatchmere are working really hard to learn all their nativity songs!

This week, Hatchmere have been singing daily, learning the lyrics for many new songs in advance of our nativity. We are so proud of the children for working so hard.

This week we were treated to a special assembly by Mrs Cowap, who has recently completed a trek across the Sahara desert, raising money for charity. It was lovely to learn about someone who worked so hard and achieved their goals, a real inspiration for the children! This also fits in with our topic, 'Who inspires us?'

In topic, we have been focusing on firefighters. The children have loved pretending to be firefighters in the role play and have been using the big white board for mark making and writing. After watching a clip of firefighters, we discussed the role of firefighters and used adjectives to describe a firefighter. Following this we began some writing, which will be finished next week.

In maths we have been busy finding the total of two amounts. The children used counters to make two amounts, then counted them altogether to find the total.

Meanwhile, we have been busy in phonics reviewing our phase 2 phonemes and tricky words. We learned the new graphemes 'w' and tricky word 'I' also this week. We looked at sentences that used I, and also looked at sentences that tried to trick us with 'Is' or 'It' at the beginning of a sentence.

Today we have made salt dough christmas decorations and will hopefully paint these this afternoon. Look for photographs on Twitter!

We hope you all have a fabulous time at the Christmas fair this afternoon, and a restful weekend,

Miss Wood, Mrs Lathaen and Mr Hunt
