Hatchmere have been working hard in phonics this week.

We have looked at the graphemes 'ch, sh, qu' in phonics this week. We also looked at the tricky words 'we, me, be, he, she' learning the tricky part and practising to read these words by sight. Within phonics we have been segmenting sounds within words to help us spell and built on this to write some short sentences. All the children completed a phonics assessment this week, details of which can be found within your child's reading diary.

As part of our topic 'How are things different?' we are comparing the UK to Brazil. During circle time, we talked about our favourite desserts, then learned about Brigadeiro - a traditional Brazilian dessert, similar to chocolate fudge balls. These were a great success and the kids loved them! We have been asked to make them again in the future.

In maths this week we continued adding two numbers together. This week we used Numicon and paint to print two numbers then count the total. It was a fun but messy activity.

We have been encouraging the children to be more independent and asking them to try to do their own zip before we help. Most children are able to do their coat zip independently. Please support this at home by encouraging children to do it themselves whenever you are going out.

The shared reading books have been given out again this week, please remember to return them each Thursday and we will swap them in class.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Wood, Mrs Lathaen and Mr Hunt
