Hatchmere have been learning about Knights; what armour they wore and weapons they used, what types of soldiers were used in battle and how people became Knights. We were very lucky to have some replicas of swords, chainmail and helmets to look at. We became archaeologists with help from Mrs Campbell and studied the remains of pottery from a Castle and made clay plaques, on which we carved our castle designs. Hatchmere have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes; they created symmetrical and repeating patterns to make shields and castles.

We have also been looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children hot-seated the suspect Jack after they found the stolen golden egg and the Giant's gold in Jack's house outside and also wrote a speech bubble to say how the Giant would have felt.

To celebrate we had our Knights and Princesses day. Thank you for your help to make it a huge success. Both Knights and Princesses took part in combat training with Sir Ashworth, created Dragons Blood and Merlin's Magic Potion Jelly as well as decorating shield biscuits with Lady Garner. They designed and made shields and crowns and took part in The Medieval Games with Sir Boynton. To celebrate the end of our fabulous day we had a Knight and Princess party for the children to enjoy.
