Hello and welcome to all our new Hatchmere children and families, we hope you’ve had a fantastic summer and feel ready to begin your exciting journey at Delamere Academy.

This term the whole school topic is “where did it all begin?”, in Hatchmere we will be focusing on learning about our families and how they shape who we become. We will link this to understanding how we can make new friends, learning about ourselves and how our bodies work.

Reading

Once children are settled into life in Hatchmere and the school routine we will begin to send reading books home, initially these books will be picture books and we encourage children to spend time with an adult discussing the story the pictures are portraying. These books are a fantastic first step in children’s reading development as they help children to develop their comprehension skills and allow families to develop a routine of sharing reading books.

PE

PE lessons will be on a Monday and Thursday morning, we ask that children’s PE kits to be brought into school on a Monday morning and then they will be sent home with the children on a Thursday afternoon, we ask PE kits to remain in school in case there is a timetable change and PE is on a different day. This half term in PE Hatchmere will be focusing on agility, balance, coordination, throwing and catching.

Swimming

Swimming lessons will begin in the third week of the half term and children will either swim on a Monday or Thursday. During your home visit Hatchmere staff will discuss any concerns or questions you may have about swimming with you and we can coordinate the best day for your child to attend swimming lessons.

School blog and Twitter

Each week the Hatchmere blog page will be updated with pictures and information about what has taken place that week. This is also the page we will be posting reminders for events and information about how you can support your child’s learning. Our twitter feed will also be updated regularly throughout the week with pictures and information on activities taking place in Hatchmere.

Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of Hatchmere staff if you have any concerns or questions regarding school life.

We look forward to spending an exciting first term with you!

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Lathaen
