Hello and welcome back to all our Hatchmere families!

We can’t believe this is the children’s final term in Hatchmere, but it’s going to be another busy and exciting one. This term our how school topic is ‘what is the reason behind it all?’ and Hatchmere will be specifically focusing on the reason behind different types of transport. We will be learning how different forms of transport help us in our lives and what they are used for. We will also be looking more closely at why different vehicles are made in certain ways and exploring the history of different vehicles, focusing on how designs have developed over time. We also be looking specifically at local industry and taking a class trip to Bunbury Mill to learn how transport and engineering was used successfully in a water mill.

Reading:

During the summer term we will continue to change children’s books on a Monday and Thursday and will benchmark children regularly. Please ensure children’s books are in their bags each day so a member of staff is able to read with them. We encourage parents to read at least 4 times a week with their child.

Swimming and PE:

Children will continue to swim on the same allocated day throughout the term. Our PE continues to be timetable for a Monday and Thursday morning, but can change due staff commitments. If your child swims on a Monday please ensure their PE kit is returned on the Tuesday morning, in case of any timetable changes.

Homework:

To help children prepare for the transition into Oakmere, we will be setting fortnightly optional homework tasks that will be provided either in the child’s book bag or on the Hatchmere homework page, depending on the nature of the task. These homeworks are optional and can be completed regularly or not at all. We have found these small homework tasks help secure children’s knowledge in the subject and help with the transition into Oakmere.

As this is the final term for children we will be spending time preparing them for the move to Oakmere by spending time in the classroom and discussing the changes they can expect.

We look forward to another fantastic term with you all. Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the Hatchmere team if you have any questions.

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Lathaen
