Happy New Year to all our Hatchmere families, we hope you’ve had a lovely break and feel ready to start the second term in Hatchmere!

We are now in the spring term of the school year and our whole school topic is ‘Can we make the world a better place?’ in Hatchmere we will be exploring ways that we can make the world a better place through the professions we choose, for example the role of police officers and ambulance workers etc. We will also be learning about how we can make the world a better place by caring for it by recycling and by caring for the environment we live in.

Reading:

Children’s books will continue to be changed on a Monday and a Thursday, the same as last term, your children will continue to be read with twice a week by a member of staff and will take part in a group guided reading session once a week. Staff will closely monitor children’s reading and they will be benchmarked once a term (more if necessary) to assess their progress. Please continue to read with your child as much as possible, ideally four times a week, and record when your child is read with in their reading journals.

PE:
PE sessions with Mr Freeman continue on a Monday and Thursday morning; please ensure children have their full kits all week in case of any timetable changes.

Swimming:
Children will continue to swim on their normal Monday or Thursday slot. Please ensure if your child swims on a Monday their PE kit is returned to school the following morning.

Homework:

As the term progresses there may be some relevant homework tasks that children can complete, this will be placed in the homework section of the Hatchmere page, you will be notified on these on the weekly blog. We will continue to send home flash cards as the children learn new sounds so these can be practiced at home. We would also like to remind parents to provide images of home learning or exciting family days for your child’s learning journey, these can be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. These are a valuable insight into your child’s learning at home and help to give a more holistic view of your child’s progress in their learning journeys so please continue to complete these.

We look forward to spending another exciting and busy term with you! Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of Hatchmere staff if you have any questions or queries.

Kind regards,

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Lathaen
