Hello and happy new year to all our Hatchmere families!

We hope you have enjoyed your Christmas and feel ready to start a new year and the second term in school for the children.

This Spring term our whole school topic is “How do we celebrate differences?” focusing on learning about different cultures around the world and celebrating these. In Hatchmere we will be exploring different countries around the world and exploring their cultures through food, art, dance and other cultural celebrations.

Reading

Children will continue to be read with twice a week in school and book change remains on a Monday and Thursday. This term will begin to benchmark children to assess their reading developments and identify how their reading can be supported in school and at home. This term we will also be introducing guided reading into our weekly timetable. Guided reading sessions involve children working in a group to read the same text and discuss it, we link these sessions to objectives taken from the EYFS curriculum.

PE

Our PE lessons will continue to be on a Monday and Wednesday morning. Please can children’s full PE kit to be brought into school on a Monday morning, we will then return the PE kit on a Thursday afternoon. We ask for the PE kit to remain in school due to any timetable changes or extra activities where the PE kit will be needed.

School blog, Twitter and homework

The school blog will continue to be updated weekly as well as plenty of tweets on the school twitter page. As the term progresses there may be opportunities for relevant homework tasks to be set, these will be on the Hatchmere Homework page and explained within the weekly blog.

Forest skills

During the year children will take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities and will have access to the outdoor area throughout the school day. On a Wednesday afternoon children will have the opportunity to take part in planned outdoor activities within the forest area of the school grounds. In order to facilitate outdoor learning we ask that you please provide your child with a pair of wellies and a coat appropriate for the weather. We will provide children with waterproof trousers and extra coats if necessary.

Stay and Play sessions

It was lovely to see so many families join us for the Chrismtas stay and play session in the final week of the term, as this was such a big success we will continue these sessions once a term. We will notify you of the date of the spring term stay and play session as soon as possible.

We hope this information is useful and if you have any questions or concerns please do not hestitate to speak to a member of Hatchmere staff.

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Lathaen
