We were treated to a lovely end to the week, with  step back in time with Key Strings

On Friday this week, we had a lovely time watching and participating in a workshop with Key Strings.  This was delivered by two gentlemen who told the history of music (particularly string music) through time.  We learnt about music from the very first musicians, through the Baroque period, into the classical period and right up to modern times (among other periods of time).

In Literacy this week, we have been thinking about how to write effective descriptions of settings.  We have taken part in a number of visualisation tasks and were surprised by the number of different pictures that we paint in our heads, based on the same description.  We learnt the importance of adding details about colour, shape and especially the senses when writing. We will continue to be looking at this next week.

In Maths this week, we have been learning about calculating decimal fraction and we have learnt to round decimals to a specified number of places, including to whole numbers.  The children have also been refining their understanding of calculating percentages and multiplying and dividing fractions.

I've been very impressed with attitudes towards learning this week, and we've had many discussion about what it takes to be an active learner, or someone who takes responsibility for their learning.  This was particularly evident in those children who opted to come to the Friday lunchtime study club that I offered instead of the Thursday night that I had to cancel due to personal commitments.  This will be running as normal this week.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Carter.
