Firstly, thank you for all of the parents, friends and family who came to the opening of The Ark and the Jubilee Garden. It really was a fantastic day and even the sun made a rare appearance. We couldn't have done it without all your help and support.

This week has been a shorter week than normal with the INSET Day on the Monday, but we have still been able to jam in as much fun and learning as possible!

In preparation for the Arley Garden Competition next week we have been revisiting the theme of the Titanic. We spent some time researching the history and put ourselves into the shoes of the different types of characters who were on the ship back on that fateful evening on April 15th, 1912. We then wrote a descriptive diary entry that we later self-assessed to recognise what our strengths were and what we could improve on.

In our numeracy lessons, the year 5's have been learning about rounding and ordering decimals up to three places and in science, we are finishing off our healthy living module by looking at the effect of smoking on our health.

The year 6's have had the opportunity to decide what they would like to do for their leaver's trip, so they have been busy preparing their detailed plans. The proposal, which will be presented to the class, includes a persuasive writing piece to try and win voters, a schedule for the day, and a poster. The children need to use their geographical skills to work out where the activity is and how long it will take to get there, and use their numeracy skills to work out all the costings. They will then write a letter to parents and have to complete their very own risk assessment! This will be an on-going project for the next couple of weeks.

We have also started our cycling proficiency this week. Even Miss Spence had a go on a bike but fully admitted to Linmere children being a lot better at controlling their bikes than her!

Last but not least, a HUGE well done to those in Linmere who battled the rain to compete in the cricket; they all did a tremendous job representing our school! Well done!
