Welcome back Nunsmere after a lovely Christmas break!

In literacy initially we will be completing our topic of newspapers by moving on and writing our own.

We will then move on to looking at information texts- through this we will be looking at the ‘important’ parts of information and how we can determine what is useful, we will be linking this to our topic by looking at space and information texts on this and some astronauts that are there.

We will then look at using a thesaurus and a dictionary properly to enhance our writing skills.

During the second half of the term we will be looking at persuasive writing, looking particularly at sentence types and vocabulary used.

In numeracy our main focus in the first half term will be multiplication and division, and during the second half term we will be moving onto fractions where we will be looking at adding fractions, finding common fractions, and finding decimal equivalents.

Please continue to learn times tables at home, and even if you know them all you can still practice getting faster to help with your mental maths skills! (upto 12x12)

Our first topic in science will be electricity. In science we will be using our knowledge an understanding of solids, liquids and gases; looking at similarities and differences to compare different materials. We will be carrying out investigations after planning them and we will also use tables to record and conclude our results.

For our topic we will be linking up mainly with geography, looking at both primary and secondary geography. For the second half term we will be looking more into planets, and renewable energy resources ready for our residential next half term.

Mr Freeman will continue to teach PE on a Tuesday and Friday and swimming will still take place on Thursdays – please ensure your child brings their kit each week.

This will be one piece of maths and one piece of literacy.
