Spring term topic web

Welcome back Nunsmere after a lovely Christmas break!

Literacy
In literacy initially we will be completing our topic of newspapers by moving on and writing our own.

We will then move on to looking at information texts- through this we will be looking at the ‘important’ parts of information and how we can determine what is useful, we will be linking this to our topic by looking at space and information texts on this and some astronauts that are there.

We will then look at using a thesaurus and a dictionary properly to enhance our writing skills.

During the second half of the term we will be looking at persuasive writing, looking particularly at sentence types and vocabulary used.

Numeracy
In numeracy our main focus in the first half term will be multiplication and division, and during the second half term we will be moving onto fractions where we will be looking at adding fractions, finding common fractions, and finding decimal equivalents.

Please continue to learn times tables at home, and even if you know them all you can still practice getting faster to help with your mental maths skills! (upto 12x12)

Science
In science we will be using our knowledge an understanding of solids, liquids and gases; looking at similarities and differences to compare different materials. We will be carrying out investigations after planning them and we will also use tables to record and conclude our results.

Topic

Our Spring term topic is ‘How does it work?’ we will be mostly looking at space, space travel and inventions and looking at British Astronaut Tim Peake, keeping up to date with his journey so far and looking at the things he does day to day.
