Oakmere enjoyed their trip to Thursaston beach this week!

Hatchmere, Oakmere and Sandymere travelled to Thurstaston, Wirral on Wednesday to spend the day exploring the wonderful environment around them.

Oakmere began their trip sitting on the top of a hill, taking in the panoramic views of the beautiful Welsh countryside, ready to sketch in their art books.  They carefully studied what they could see as they sketched their artwork using pencils.  The children loved relaxing in the calming environment and had wonderful conversations together over what they could see.

They then met Frank, the Country Park Ranger and had a pond dipping session with him.  The children caught many types of species using a net and really hoped to catch a water scorpion, one of Frank's favourites!  They didn't catch a water scorpion sadly, but did catch many insects and a few fish! They were delighted!

Next it was packed lunch time in the shade and they busily discussed at the tables what sand sculptures they would be creating on the seashore that afternoon.  We travelled down the path and steps to the beach and had a photo taken on the big deckchair! The children then headed off to create sculptures made from natural materials and came up with a real variety of artwork.

Mr Ashworth and I couldn't have been any more proud of the children on the trip, their behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the day was wonderful and we all enjoyed every moment.  A huge thank you to the volunteers who joined us on the trip, you were all amazing and made the day very special.

In school the children have been continuing their work on addition and subtraction and in science they have been studying their sunflowers, noting the changes since their last observation.  These sunflowers are experiencing the VIP treatment in this hot sunshine, being watered regularly!

On Monday, the school will have their RE Hinduism workshop, the children are really looking forward to it.

We wish you all a sunny weekend
