The children have worked incredibly hard this week!

Our first topic lesson was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the children! They all loved exploring the different artefacts and they raised some fantastic questions that we will explore in future lessons.

In phonics this week, the children have been recapping their phase 3 sounds. We have been so impressed with how many of them they can remember! In Literacy, the children have been using their phonological knowledge to write simple sentences and lists. Some of the children were even able to use capital letters and full stops correctly.

In maths, we have been practising our number formation. This can be a little tricky (especially ‘2’ and ‘5’!) but the children have done really well with it. Today, we looked at how we could sort objects into different groups based upon their characteristics. The children used their reasoning skills to explain their choices and could recognise that there were multiple ways that they could group the objects.

We have started our 'animals including humans' topic this week in science. The children had lots of fun labelling the parts of the body and demonstrated some excellent teamwork!

This week the children also had their first French lesson with Mrs Birks. They learned a fantastic song which helped them to remember the names of different vehicles. Over the next few lessons they will be continuing to learn lots of new words.

Our first forest skills lesson was great fun! The children went on a nature scavenger hunt to get them more familiar with the forest setting and found lots of interesting things.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the zoom meeting. It was very strange not to deliver it in person but hopefully it provided you with some useful information about the expectations and work in year 1. If you missed it, the PowerPoint has been uploaded to google classroom.

The homework is now live on Google Classroom. Homework is due on a Friday and spelling tests are also on a Friday. Green spelling books should have gone home with the children today for them to practise in. These do not have to come back in to school as they are for use at home only. The first spelling test will be a week today. If you have any problems accessing the homework, please let us know.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Lewis and Mrs Carroll
