Children are gradually unearthing the mysteries that lay within the ancient camera that was found washed up on a beautiful, golden beach in our literacy story ‘Flotsam’. The exposed camera film revealed a beautiful sea turtle with majestic, pointy shells on its back! This week children have started to plan their non-chronological reports, which link into our literacy story, Flotsam.

During topic lessons, we have been researching a variety of inspirational people. With the assistance of the world wide web, children have been able to find out where inspirational people, such as Florence Nightingale and Nelson Mandela come from, and they have enjoyed locating these places on maps.

We have stepped up a gear in maths and have been looking at how we can count forwards and backwards across both positive and negative numbers. Also, as you can see from the photos below, children have also enjoyed learning maths outside of the classroom. With Mrs Evans, they played lots of energetic games, where they were challenged to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 and 10,000.

In RE, we have discussed the schools core values and have started to look at the story of ‘The Prodigal Son’. Pickmere have also set themselves targets for the academic year during CARE and over the next few weeks we will be discussing how they can achieve these targets.

This week, I had the pleasure of being involved with the Delamere swimming lessons. As a competitive swimmer myself, I have to say we have some excellent swimmers amongst the class – well done to all those that were in my group this week!

Finally, a big well done to all children that have learnt their spellings and revised their timetables this week – the hard work and effort has definitely been noticed in their weekly test.

Enjoy your weekend
