As you can see, Pickmere are loving their class read - Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief!

In literacy this week we have focused on our grammar and spelling. Children have been busy looking at the suffixes -ise, -ate and -ify. I have been busy reading all of the wonderful non-chronological reports that the class have written - don't they look amazing! Next week, children will begin to write the wonderful adventures of ‘Flotsam’ – the book that we have focused on this half term.

In maths we have started our addition and subtraction unit. We have gone back to basics and reminded ourselves of how we carry one over in addition and borrow one in subtraction. We will continue with this topic until half term. In the photos below, children were adding up different 4-digit whole numbers and trying to discover whose name in the class equalled the most amount of points! Although it's been chilly and damp, we did manage to briefly take ourselves outside of the classroom to do some maths place value revision.

Continuing on from last week's science lesson, we have looked at the theory behind why things dissolve. In Topic, children have been writing about David Attenborough and Florence Nightingale. They will get to type these up next week in computing.

Today, children had an unexpected treat with a workshop led by Chester Zoo. Children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, that was all about the rainforest, and were really forthcoming with information and ideas.

Have a great weekend
