This week Pickmere have started making their 3D African masks in topic!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and we wish you all a very happy New Year. Pickmere have started the new year focused and determined with goals set in their sights.

This week has seen the start of our new topic - How are things different? As a class we will primarily be focussing on South Africa and how this compares to the United Kingdom. Throughout the week we have looked at where each country is in comparison to the Equator, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. As seen in the photo above, children have also (rather excitedly) started to design their 3D African Masks. So far, children have used various bits of card to layer their masks and we aim to finish these by painting and gluing them next week!

In Literacy, we have started our new book 'The Hunter'. We have read the first couple of pages and have looked at building sentences using punctuation to indicate parenthesis, modal verbs and story predictions. We will continue building up our knowledge before completing an assessed piece of writing towards the end of the term. Shortly, we will be starting our new class read by Roald Dahl, Danny Champion of the World. Thank you to all children that have brought their own copy in. In Maths we have been looking at fractions and children are really trying hard to grasp the concept of equivalent fractions. In RE, we have been looking at the meaning behind the five pillars of Islam.

As you are all aware, we have a school trip on Wednesday 22nd January to the Museum of Liverpool. For this to take place, we do require one more parent/ guardian volunteer. If you are free and wanting to join, please let one of us know ASAP.

Have a lovely end to your week

Miss Wild, Mrs Evans and Mrs Law
