This week we enjoyed a wonderful workshop where we learnt all about our water cycle.

United Utilities came into school on Tuesday morning and led a fantastic, interactive workshop. We learned through a variety of songs, dances, actions and demonstrations. Children had the opportunity to analyse and discuss their personal water usage and we looked at how this would compare with a child of similar age in South Africa. I think we all agreed that we are very fortunate to have continuous running water in our homes.

This week has been assessment week. Children have completed a number of assessments linking to maths, literacy and reading comprehension. After half term, we will go these with the children question by question. This will give them opportunity to consolidate their learning and understand what they were required to do on some of the trickier questions.

When we come back after half term, our PE will continue to be on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon. PE is a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. As temperatures can get quite low at this time of year, we would recommend that children bring jogging bottoms in their PE kits to help them stay warm when outside.

Children have been set a piece of homework, as part of the trusts 500 words challenge, which is to be completed over half term. There is complete freedom regarding what children can write about. We have suggested to children that they complete this on a word document, or something similar, as it will count their words for them, and this will ease the challenge! We are more than happy for typed stories to be emailed through to the school office.

Finally, it’s great to hear that so many children are keen to get out and about on their bikes during half term as this will help them during their forthcoming Bikeability training. We hope you have a lovely half term; however you are spending it.
