I think it's safe to say, judging by the smiles on their faces, that Pickmere have been over the moon to be back in school.

It has been lovely seeing everyone this week, and I know that the children have also thoroughly enjoyed catching up with each other - after all, for many, it has been so long!

Whilst we have only been back in school a couple of days so far, we have been incredibly busy. On Thursday we discussed the year 5 curriculum and learning expectations, experimented with the watercolours and did our first maths lesson of the year! On Friday, we worked as a class to come up with our class rules, discussed how we could be 'the best versions of ourselves', completed some orienteering with Mr Freeman and looked at the key vocabulary for this years topic, 'How did Britain begin?'

You may have noticed that your child has brought home a reading book today (I did check the lockers were empty before they left so fingers crossed). Some children have already been benchmarked and a message has been left in their reading diaries regarding the outcome of this. We are gradually working our way through benchmarking the full class so please bear with us if your child is yet to be benchmarked.

This week all families should have received an email inviting them to be part of the 'Pickmere 2020-2021' google classroom. Invitations have been sent via your child's Nunsmere email address - the one they were provided with by school during school closures. Please can you log on to accept the invitation as children will need to access this online classroom on a weekly basis.

Finally, Mr Ashworth and I will be holding a Pickmere Curriculum Evening via zoom on Tuesday 8th September at 4.30pm. Full details and links will be sent via our admin team next week. If you are unable to attend, please do not worry as the powerpoint will be added to the Pickmere google classroom afterwards.

I hope you all have a lovely, restful weekend.

Miss Wild
