Wow what a busy first term in year 2 this has been.

Last week the children performed their nativity ‘A Wriggly Nativity’, which was absolutely amazing! We were so proud of each of child in Sandymere, they sang beautifully and spoke loudly and clearly. Well done Sandymere.

This week we’ve been doing lots of Christmas crafts and getting into the Christmas spirit! On Monday we made a Christmas pinecone craft, which the children really enjoyed. We have then linked this craft to our instruction writing in literacy and wrote a set of instructions on how to make the Christmas pinecones. We focused on using imperative verbs and adverbs to make sure our instructions are detailed and specific for other children or adults to follow. The children really enjoyed this activity and the sets of instructions that they wrote afterwards were fantastic!

Also on Monday afternoon the children enjoyed a panto, which was Beauty and the Beast. A lovely treat from school in the run up to Christmas!

We’ve been looking back this week on the children’s progress over their first term in Year 2. It’s lovely to see how much progress each child has made; they have all grown in confidence and independence. We hope you have seen these positive changes as well!

Over the Christmas holidays there is an optional homework task being set for the children, we recognise that this is a busy time for families which is why this a small task that can be extended based on how much time you can give to it. This task can be found on the Sandymere Homework page. When we return to school a new homework grid and spelling list will be uploaded onto the Sandymere Homework page. Please ensure your child brings in their homework folder the first week back so the homework tasks can be updated. Thank you.

Thank you for all your kind messages and Christmas cards and we hope you have a fantastic Christmas period. We can’t wait to hear all about it from the children in the New Year!
