As it’s the first week back after half term we have started some new topics in Sandymere.

In our literacy work we have started our new book focus. We’re reading the story The Disgusting Sandwich and this week we’ve been exploring expanded noun phrases and how these add detail to our writing and really engage the reader. We’ll be looking at recipes next week and starting to write our own disgusting sandwich recipe the week after that.

In maths we’ve moved onto addition and subtraction and have started looking at adding three single digit numbers as well as looking at past SATS papers.

This week we had a visit from Reverend Angela on Wednesday morning, she spoke with us about All Saints day. It was lovely to have a visit in school from Reverend Angela and we look forward to seeing her on Wednesday mornings. Then on Wednesday afternoon we had a visit from Alex who teaches keyboard in school, he gave us a keyboard demonstration which clearly worked as lots of children have signed up for lessons!

Today we made a set of poppies on the stones that children brought into school, these will be on display from Monday. We also made paper and card poppies to be displayed in the windows. It was lovely to talk with the children about the significance of Remembrance Day and even more special that some children were able to share stories from their past relatives and the role they played in the war. The staff in Sandymere also shared their connections with the army and the world wars.

We hope you have a lovely afternoon,

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Dodd
