Dear Parents and Carers                                                                                                          5 July 2019

Where does the time go? I cannot believe it has been a whole week since our Sports Day and Summer Fair. Thank you to everyone who attended, gave their time to organising this event and our annual Gin and Beer Festival that took place the following day. We really appreciate all of the hard work and support you offer during these events. The PTA have been incredibly successful and raised a huge amount of money for the school and its pupils this year. This is a real team effort and I know that many parents get involved; I would however like to send out some special thanks to Kate Carroll and Liz Houston for chairing the PTA so successfully this year.

On Wednesday it was Blakemere’s turn to visit Pizza Express and then later in the day the children in Pickmere and Linmere were treated to a wonderful performance and workshop by The Hammond School. This performance was all based around being safe online and how to deal with social pressures. The children were able to take part and give their opinions on the choices that the actors were making. After they had watched the performance, the children were able to split off and create a scene of their own. They were looking to incorporate social media and demonstrate how what you see online may not always be as it seems.

This week a number of our children took part in the Chester District Athletics competition. This is one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar with over 25 schools taking part. All of our children tried their absolute best in a variety of running, jumping and throwing events. There is a special mention for Isla Entwistle who won a gold medal in a throwing event and Ruby Carrington for winning a bronze medal in the 800m.

Also this week we have hosted an Academy Trust KS1 Athletics Festival, taken part in a Judo competition and our Rounders’ team won a bronze medal at the Sandstone Sports Partnership Rounders’ competition.

We were delighted to receive the news this week that we have been awarded the School Games Platinum Award for our commitment to PE and schools sports.

The preparations and rehearsals for our Key Stage Two production of Matilda are well underway. After a full run though we have realised that the play runs a little longer than normal. With this in mind and recent notification from the Highways Agency that the end of Stoney Lane, A556 and A54 are closing at 8pm on Wednesday 10 July, we have unfortunately had to move the performance times. The afternoon performance will now start at 1.30pm and the evening performance will start promptly at 5.45pm. Can we request that the children are returned to school at 5.30pm? We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Unfortunately, after Sports Day we have had a series of complaints from local residents about the “thoughtless and in some cases dangerous parking”. Please be considerate and think about the safety of other road users, pedestrians and local residents when parking. In terms of parking and road congestion, as a school we are looking into how we can relieve some of the issues we currently have. We have plans to trial some possible solutions in the new academic year.

Please can you all check your Eezee Trip accounts this weekend and pay for any outstanding items. Thank you all for your continued support and have a lovely weekend.
