It's been a busy week in Hatchmere!

We have had a class filled with big smiles and excitement all week, as this week we took a trip to a pool for swimming lessons! Not only were we having our first ever school swimming lessons, we also went on the school minibus for the first time too! The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the swimming lessons and listened to the swimming teachers very well. The photos on Twitter captured the happiness so well in Hatchmere and across the whole school. We are so excited to return to the pool next week!

In Topic this week, Hatchmere looked at the work of the artist Jackson Pollock.  The children were thrilled to hold paint bottles upside down as they watched the paint flow freely onto the paper.  It was a magical experience seeing their faces as they moved the bottle around the paper; turning, lifting and tilting the different coloured paint bottles to create personal pieces of art.

As well as using a drip technique with paint, Hatchmere also sketched drawings of fruit and vegetables using pencils and crayons.  We we really impressed with the attention to detail in the pieces of artwork, it was also lovely hearing the children praise each other's work too! Another fantastic week in Hatchmere.

In Maths this week, we have continued using addition and subtraction sums in problem solving activities.  The dinosaurs have been very busy moving around in the tuff tray, as the children solved the maths challenges!  Hatchmere wrote stories using mini booklet templates and shared their wonderful independent writing and story ideas with their friends.

We wish you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Birks, Mrs Lathaen, Mr Hunt and Mrs Young.
