Hello and welcome back to the final term in Hatchmere!

We can’t believe how quick this year has gone and how we only have one term left before the children move into Oakmere! This term our whole school topic is “Where in the world are we?” and in Hatchmere we’ll be focusing on using maps to help us understand more about where our local area is in relation to our country and the world. We’ll also be learning new facts about our local area. Our school trip this term will be to Bunbury Mill, a historic venue within our local community. The children will learn about the role of the Mill and even take on the task of becoming ‘millers apprentices’, it promises to be a fantastic trip!

As this is the final term in Hatchmere we will be focusing on preparing the children for their transition into Oakmere. To help prepare them for this transition we will be implementing an optional homework grid, this is the same homework system that is used throughout the school and will help prepare children for the increase in homework in year one. The homework grid contains 6 homework tasks linking to our topic work, literacy work and maths work, during the first half term one homework task of your choice is to be completed per week. The completed homework is to be brought into school on a Friday and our show and tell sessions will be used for children to show and talk about their homework.

We will continue to change children’s reading books on a Monday and Thursday and will bench mark children at least every half term. Please ensure your child’s books are in the their bags each day so they can be read with a member of staff or take part in a guided reading session. We encourage you to read with your child 4 times a week.

Swimming and PE:
Children’s allocated PE slots will continue to be a Monday and Wednesday morning, please ensure their PE kit is in from a Monday-Thursday in case of timetable changes. The children will continue to swim as normal on a Thursday morning and need to come into school wearing their PE kit.

As this is our final term in Hatchmere and our focus is preparing children for the transition into Oakmere, we will be working hard to encourage children to be more independent within school. We ask that parent’s help to support this at morning drop off by encouraging children to enter the classroom on their own and put away their bags without parental support. As children move through school we ask that parents do not come into the classroom at morning drop off, the final term in Hatchmere is a good chance to begin to include this into your child’s morning routine.

We look forward to another fantastic term with you all. Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of Hatchmere staff if you have any questions.

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd, Mrs Lathaen and Mrs Dodd
