A huge welcome to all our new starters at Delamere this year. We can’t wait to see all the new (and some familiar) faces.

We hope you have enjoyed your summer and feel ready to start your child’s journey at Delamere Academy.

This term our whole school topic is “How did history begin?”. In Hatchmere we will have a cave role-play area, where we can complete activities which will include using mark-making materials to decorate the building, construction to create other caves and to also compare the structure of a cave to buildings we live in today

We will begin to send reading books home in week two, after the children have started to settle into life in Hatchmere. Initially these books will be picture books and we encourage children to spend time with an adult discussing the story the pictures are portraying. These books are a fantastic first step in children’s reading development as they help children to develop their comprehension skills and allow families to develop a routine of sharing reading books.

Our PE lessons will be on a Wednesday and Friday morning. We ask for the PE kit to remain in school due to any timetable changes or extra activities where the PE kit will be needed. This half term in PE Hatchmere will be focusing on agility, balance, coordination and throwing and catching.

School blog and Twitter

Each week we update our Hatchmere blog with information and pictures about the weeks activities and focus. The blog is also a really useful way for us to communicate messages with you and share ideas and tips for supporting your child’s learning at home. We also updated our twitter page regularly throughout the week with pictures and information about what exciting things we’re getting up to in Hatchmere.

Forest skills

During the year children will take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities and will have access to the outdoor area throughout the school day. On a Friday afternoon, children will have the opportunity to take part in planned outdoor activities within the forest area of the school grounds. In order to facilitate outdoor learning we ask that you please provide your child with a pair of wellies and a coat appropriate for the weather. We will provide children with waterproof trousers and extra coats if necessary.

We hope this information is useful and if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to speak to a member of Hatchmere staff. A parent meeting will be held through Zoom in the next few weeks, during this meeting we will share more information about how we will be recording your child's learning this year. Look out for the date in Mrs Clayton's newsletter!

We’re very excited to start our first term with you all, and hope you are too!
