Welcome back to Hatchmere. We hope you had a lovely Christmas break!

We are very excited to start the new term and have lots of fun activities planned for the children. The topic web above outlines the early learning goals to be met this term. However, please note, the list is not exhaustive and we maximise learning opportunities wherever possible, and as always plan from the children's interests as we go along.

This term our whole school topic is "What makes Cheshire special?". We are focusing on our local area in Hatchmere and have some exciting activities planned. We will have a role play area set up as our local shop 'Delamere Stores' and will be learning about Delamere, Chester and Cheshire. We will be looking at maps and finding our school on maps, looking at wider areas and eventually our place in the world. The children will be learning about and having activities focused on local attractions and businesses such as Abbeywood Gardens, Chester Zoo and Robert's Bakery. During our topic work we are going to be writing postcards from our local area and also creating leaflets with captions, using our writing skills.

The children will complete daily phonics. This term we will begin on phase 3 and build on our skills of segmenting and blending. There will be more opportunities for writing in both planned activities and the continuous provision. Reading will continue as usual, books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday. Please remember to record when you read at home with your child so we are able to swap their books.

We will continue to develop our understanding of number, counting and ordering. The children will use a variety of resources to add and subtract numbers within 10, 20 and beyond depending on their progress. We will also look at doubling and halving numbers. Activities within the continuous provision will allow children to explore number at their own rate and consolidate skills they learn as a group.

Forest Skills

We will recommence our weekly outdoor sessions on a Monday afternoon using the field and woodland area. In order to facilitate outdoor learning we ask that you please provide your child with a pair of wellies and a coat appropriate for the weather. You are welcome to leave them in lockers as you did in the Autumn term.

School blog, Twitter and Learning Book

Each week the class blog will have more details about what learning has taken place each week, this is a useful guide for ideas to support and extend your child's learning at home if you wish. Our twitter feed will be updated throughout the week with pictures and captions showing the exciting things Hatchmere class have been up to. We will continue to update Learning Book throughout Spring term, where you can see your child's achievements in class.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Birks, Mrs Inskip, Mrs Lathaen & Mr Hunt.
