Hatchmere- Spring 2016

Happy New Year to all our Hatchmere families!

We are now in the spring term of our school year and our whole school topic is ‘How does it work?’. Hatchmere will be focusing primarily on transport, how different modes of transport work and what their uses are for different occupations.

Reading:

Reading books will continue to be changes on a Monday and Thursday, children will be heard read twice a week and their reading will be closely monitored to ensure the best progress is being made. Please continue to read with your child twice a week (or more!) and record this in their reading journals. As of this term, the children will start guided reading on a Wednesday. This is a group reading session to help target a range of reading skills: fluency, comprehension and punctuation knowledge for example.

PE:

PE lessons will continue as last term on a Monday and a Thursday, this half term the children will be focusing on dance and gymnastics.

Swimming:

This term swimming will still be on a Monday and Thursday.

Homework:

As well as the reading books and letter formation sheets being sent home, this term children will be provided with a few extra numeracy activities to support their learning in school.

We look forward to spending another exciting half term with you! Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or voice concerns with any member of the Hatchmere staff.

Miss Hume, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Lathaen

Hatchmere – Autumn 2015

Hello to all our new Hatchmere children and families!

We hope you've all had a lovely summer and are ready to begin your exciting time at Delamere Academy.

This term the whole school topic is "What's the big idea?" and in Hatchmere we will be focusing initial on the idea of Noah's Arc and how he built the Arc to save all the animals, this will feed into the idea of us caring for all the different animals that share our world and the brilliant conservation work Zoo's do; especially Chester Zoo.

Reading
Once children are settled comfortable with the school routine we will begin to send home reading books, to start with these books won't have any words. We would like you to share these books with your child and discuss the story the pictures are portraying. This is really important to help children develop their reading comprehension, once the children begin phonics we will move onto books with simple sentences.

PE
PE lessons will be on a Monday and Thursday morning. We ask that children bring their PE kit on a Monday morning, this then stays in school until Thursday afternoon when children will be sent home with their kits. This half term in PE Hatchmere will be focusing on agility, balance, coordination and throwing and catching.

Swimming
Our super exciting swimming lessons will begin in the second week of term, the week commencing 14th September, we will discuss any concerns or questions you have on your home visits.

Please feel free to discuss any concerns, worries or ask any question you have with any members of the Hatchmere staff.

We look forward to spending our first half term together!
