We have had another wonderful week here in Nunsmere. 

 

During our literacy sessions this week we have been exploring our new text; we have used inference skills when looking at images from the book to help us better understand the story and empathise with the characters. We have focussed on accurately punctuating speech in our grammar sessions this week and have also visited various other grammatical elements of the Year 4 curriculum including fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and using exciting "wow" verbs. 

In maths we have started a new focus on money and we have been looking at how to convert money from pence to pounds, along with using our rounding skills to make estimations. We have also focussed on our mathematical reasoning this week, with children using the word "because" in lots of maths problems to explain and prove their thinking.

For Topic this week we have delved into the musical past by looking at the history of music from prehistoric time (Mrs Campbell's forte!) and the medieval time right through to modern day compositions. For this the children created timelines and drew how each era of music made them feel. 

We have had SO much fun in computing this week - the children absolutely loved using scratch.com to code their own quizzes! The children amazed myself and Mrs Campbell with their ability to code, they were incredibly independent with this activity and their quizzes were fantastic! They were tasked with making it maths themed and we had lots of fun putting each quiz up on the classroom screen and having children complete them. 

We have explored where our energy comes from in science this week, looking at the pros and cons of many different renewable and non-renewable energy sources. We also enjoyed a Zoom session with WWF all about penguins and polar bears! 

In RE we have began our learning on Islam and we have explored and discussed many Islamic artefacts along with looking at the 5 pillars of Islam.
