All PE lessons at Delamere are taught by a specialist PE teacher and also fully qualified coaches. Each child at KS1 and KS2 receives a minimum of two hours high quality PE and games teaching per week, which covers the full spectrum of the PE curriculum throughout the school year. In addition to this, all children from reception to year 6 are taught weekly swimming lessons by qualified swimming teachers and the school offers lane swimming each Tuesday for more able swimmers. As a fully-inclusive school, all PE is taught to enable each child to achieve their maximum potential through full participation. All lessons are exciting, stimulating and allow the whole child to focus on being healthy, fit and safe whilst developing a love of PE that should inspire them on further. PE is taught in single year classes in mixed ability groups.

Swimming takes place at three local pools each week. Lessons are taught following the National Curriculum for Swimming either by our qualified PE teacher or swimming coaches who all have ASA qualifications. A lifeguard is always present at each lesson. We charge a contribution of £3.00 towards transport to and from each lesson.

PE Kit
All children are required to wear Delamere Academy PE kit and appropriate footwear when taking part in PE lessons. PE kits should be brought in on a Monday morning and taken home at the end of the day on Friday. Please can parents ensure they label their child's PE kit.

After School Clubs
The school offers a range of additional sporting opportunities that are open to a variety of year groups after school. These are either taught by school staff or qualified coaches. They offer diversity and a range of sporting choices that hopefully lead into children taking up sports outside of the school with different clubs. The majority of these clubs are offered free of charge and we try where possible to offer the opportunities to as many children as possible throughout the year.

Extra-Curricular Sport
In all year groups, the children will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of extra-curricular sports, competitions and activities. The school is a member of two competition networks (Chester School Sports Partnership and Sandstone Partnership) and sporting success forms a rich part of school life. Our aim is that all children have the chance to represent the school at least one time per year in the time they are at school and also that through competitions we will encourage children to form links with external clubs where their skills can be refined and perfected. Not all children thrive in the competition environment and for some it can be quite daunting to compete. As a school we will always endeavour to pick teams that we think have the opportunity to compete competitively, fairly and represent the school to the best of their ability. We will always attempt to be fair and transparent in our selection of teams and will try to make sure that as many children as possible can compete in the range of competitions throughout the year.

Intra-School Sport
Throughout the year we follow the Sainsbury's School Games competition pathway to motivate and inspire your children to take part in more competitive school sport.

The Games are made up of three levels of activity: competition in schools, between schools, and at county/area level.

Intra-school (Level 1) are sporting competitions for all children in school through intra-school competitions. Using our existing house system all of the children will gain experience of competitive sport through end of unit competitions during PE lessons, Sports Week and Sports Day.
