“For all children at Delamere CE Academy to experience excellent physical education, school sport and physical activity that will lead to life-long participation.”
Physical Education at Delamere is highly valued for its unique contribution to developing our children's physical, social and emotional skills and overall health and well-being. It provides opportunities for children to be creative and competitive while learning to work with and respect others. Our specialist PE Teacher, Mr Freeman, teaches all PE lessons at Delamere. Every class at Delamere receives a minimum of two hours high quality PE teaching per week, which covers the full spectrum of the PE curriculum throughout the school year. In addition to this, all children from reception to Year 6 receive weekly swimming lessons taught by qualified swimming teachers.
As a fully-inclusive school, all PE is taught to enable each child to achieve their maximum potential through full participation. All lessons are exciting, fun, stimulating and promote good health; improve physical fitness and aim to develop key skills such as; leadership, teamwork, communication and decision-making.
At Delamere we give all of our children the opportunity to show their competitive edge through participating in intra-school sports competitions throughout the year. Children represent their Houses in sports such as; football, tag-rugby, handball, swimming and athletics.
We are also a member of two sports competition networks (Chester School Sports Association and the Sandstone School Sports Partnership) and sporting success forms a rich part of school life.
Our aim is that all children have the chance to represent the school each year and also that through competitions we will encourage the children to form links with external clubs where their skills can be refined and perfected. As a school we will always endeavour to pick teams that we think have the opportunity to compete competitively, fairly and represent the school to the best of their ability.
Sport is a vital part of our school way of life. Excellence in sport is as important as academic experience and the constant layering of skills the children receive during their PE lessons has paid dividends with the children’s progress and achievement on the sporting field.
More importantly however, than success on the sporting front, is having a PE role model on staff that has helped those who find sport more difficult and challenging than others gain the confidence they need to enjoy the subject.
The school offers a wide range of additional sporting opportunities before, during and after-school. These are either taught by school staff or qualified sports coaches. They offer diversity and a range of sporting choices that hopefully lead into children taking up sports outside of the school with different clubs. The majority of these clubs are offered free of charge and we try where possible to offer the opportunities to as many children as possible throughout the year.
All children are required to wear Delamere Academy PE kit and appropriate footwear when taking part in PE lessons. PE kits should be brought in on a Monday morning and taken home at the end of the day on Friday. Please can parents ensure they label their child's PE kit.
